Education & Advocacy
Overview
Welfare of Children and Youth Association (WCYA) believes that education and advocacy are fundamental tools for empowering children and youth to become active, informed, and responsible members of society. Our Education & Advocacy Program is designed to equip young individuals with the knowledge, skills, and platforms necessary to understand their rights, articulate their needs, and drive positive change within their communities.
This program focuses on support and building capacity through interactive workshops, training sessions, and mentorship opportunities. We aim to foster critical thinking, promote civic engagement, and cultivate a sense of agency among children and youth. By providing access to information on relevant issues, facilitating dialogue with decision-makers, and supporting youth-led initiatives, WCYA empowers young people to advocate for their rights and contribute to a more just and equitable future.
- Key Approaches
Rights-Based Education
We provide comprehensive education on children’s rights, ensuring that young people are well-informed about their fundamental freedoms and protections. Our programs cover the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and other relevant national and international legal frameworks, equipping children with the knowledge they need to understand their entitlements.
By fostering awareness and critical thinking, we empower children to recognize when their rights are being upheld or violated. Through interactive workshops, advocacy training, and community outreach, we enable them to speak up, seek support, and actively participate in efforts to protect and promote their well-being.
Beyond educating children, we also engage parents, caregivers, educators, and policymakers to create a supportive environment where children’s rights are not only understood but fully respected and implemented.
Advocacy Skills Training
We offer dynamic and interactive workshops designed to equip young people with essential advocacy skills, empowering them to effectively articulate their concerns and influence policy decisions. Our training covers key areas such as communication, public speaking, negotiation, and lobbying, ensuring that children and youth have the confidence and ability to engage with decision-makers at all levels.
Through hands-on activities, role-playing exercises, and mentorship, participants learn how to express their ideas clearly, engage in constructive dialogue, and advocate for meaningful change. We also provide guidance on navigating policy-making processes, enabling young advocates to push for child-friendly policies that reflect their needs and aspirations.
By fostering these skills, we empower young people to become active participants in shaping the decisions that affect their lives, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights are upheld in all aspects of society.

Civic Engagement Initiatives
We empower young people to take the lead in designing, implementing, and managing impactful projects and advocacy campaigns that tackle pressing challenges in their communities. Our initiatives focus on key areas such as improving access to quality education, promoting public health awareness and well-being, and advocating for environmental sustainability. Through mentorship, training, and resource mobilization, we equip youth with the necessary skills and support to drive meaningful change and create lasting social impact.
Dialogue and Interaction
We establish inclusive and dynamic platforms that enable young people to engage meaningfully with government officials, community leaders, policymakers, and other key stakeholders. Through forums, panel discussions, policy dialogues, and advocacy initiatives, we foster open communication and collaboration, ensuring that youth voices are heard and considered in decision-making processes. Our initiatives emphasize ethical communication, media literacy, and fact-based advocacy to ensure that youth voices are amplified in a responsible and impactful manner.
