Project Overview

The COPING TOGETHER project aims to equip children and youth with the right information and available resources to protect themselves from the COVID-19 pandemic. Funded by PLAN INTERNATIONAL and implemented by the WELFARE OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH with support from ENDA, AMWCY, TOUCH BACK ORGANIZATION, and GREAT MINDS EMPIRE.

The project addresses not only the immediate health impact but also the educational challenges faced by children during the pandemic. Through community learning centers, production of protective equipment, and educational campaigns, the project has made significant impact in multiple communities across Ghana.

Our Key Initiatives

Community Learning Centers

Established centers in Ve-Deme and Liati Central in the Afadjato South District, equipped with televisions, decoders, and whiteboards to facilitate e-learning during COVID-19. An average of 287 students (167 girls and 120 boys) benefited from the centers, supported by volunteer teachers and animators.

Distribution of Washable Masks

Distributed 1,000 washable masks produced by grassroot group members in Liati, Ve-Deme, Ve-Golo Kwati, Aflao, Ho Klefe, Ho Bankoe, and Accra. The campaign also educated on proper hand washing techniques, mask wearing, and social distancing.

COVID-19 Awareness Videos & Messages

Produced child-friendly COVID-19 educational messages in English and three Ghanaian languages (GA, Twi, and Ewe). Children and youth in Accra also created short educational videos on preventive measures distributed through social campaigns.

Production of Hygiene Equipment

Produced and distributed Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, and liquid soap to seven communities. Washing stations were strategically placed in community centers, lorry stations, and markets where vulnerable children could access them.

COVID-19 Prevention Training

Participated in training organized by the Ga West Municipal Health Directorate to better understand COVID-19 prevention methods, community engagement strategies, and proper health protocols to protect vulnerable populations.
